Relating the word of God to believers and pre-believers in ways that they can relate to, respond to and incorporate within their lives.
2. What do you identify as your primary talents, gifts and interests?
Theological research, dialogue and writing. Outdoor adventure, college student development, finance and environmental issues. I relate well to a wide variety of people, believes or otherwise.
3. What do you consider to be your weaknesses in an occupational setting?
Lack of experience and confidence in my public speaking. Placing too much emphasis on finances.
4. What resources would you need to feel like you could be successful in a ministry endeavor?
The freedom to survive my mistakes, an encouraging but challenging environment, collaborative teamwork, loving but honest feedback. Adequate resources to get the job done: guidance, money, printed and printing materials, a quality vision/ hedgehog concept.
5. What anxieties do you have about a team ministry undertaking?
I am concerned that too much, professional interaction could strain friendships. I am concerned that money to provide a viable ministry and family income will be lacking. I struggle with having faith to step into uncharted waters.
6. If money were no concern, what kind of job/ministry would you choose?
Anything that incorporates outdoor adventure, pursuits of the mind, quality relationships and the message of Christ.
7. Do you have any preference for an occupation in the United States or abroad, and are there any geographical areas (U.S. or overseas) that appeal or would be deal breakers?
I am extremely flexible, and comfortable with either foreign or domestic opportunities. I prefer colder, mountainous regions but am also willing to go wherever is necessary with the exception of the wheat-belt from North Dakota to Texas. My ideal, general location would be in the American West, excluding southern California.
8. Is there a target age group that you would prefer to work with or not work with?
I would prefer college-age students. professionals and post-modern thinkers regardless of age.
9. What do you think are the biggest challenges of the Church today? Lists without explanations are ok. Self-centeredness Materialism Judgmental attitudes "Spiritual goods" Consumerism Irrelevance Willful and hostile ignorance and condescending attitude towards non-Christians Lack of discipleship Lack of spiritual maturity and service Losing faith at key developmental moments such as the college years
10. Are there any components in that list of problems in which you feel that you have something to offer?
I think I am well equipped to make connections with post-modern thinkers and with those who have had negative experiences with the church. I think I can show people and our culture the relevance of Christ.
11. Would you prefer to build on the foundation of a predecessor or create a new enterprise altogether?
I have no preference, but would need greater resources to initiate a new entity.
12. Do you see yourself as an organizational figurehead or as a supporting staff member?
I see myself in a supporting role, but I am flexible to go where the Spirit leads.
13. Do you think that exploring options for us to work in ministry together is a great idea or a waste of time?
