Conniry #7: Skepticism toward “foundational knowledge.”

7) We observed that the modern disciplines of science, philosophy, and sociology corroborated the growing skepticism toward “foundational knowledge.” Be prepared to specify which disciplines we identified and the representative influencers.

  1. Science: Thomas Kuhn -No scientist comes to their field as a blank slate or one who can observe with no bias or pre-installed interpretive framework.

Philosophy: Ludwig Wittgenstein - His studies were on the specific functionality of language in religion. It is used as means to certain ends. This was a precursor to critical postmodern philosophies of language.

Sociology: Alexis De Tocqueville - He is the first to make wide use of the term “individualism” whereby segments and even individual members break away or withdraw from the larger cultural context to develop their own, smaller communities where they are more willing participants and contributors.
